When I have the day off I love to plan out an adventure or just a drive somewhere to take pictures. One of my favorite drives is Berthoud Pass which takes you up to Winter Park, which also happens to be one of my favorite places to snowboard.
Winter Park is super easy to get to and the views are spectacular. Before going up Berthoud make sure you stop at Lewis Sweet Shop in Empire.
Lewis Sweet Shop has been around since the late 1940’s! They serve everything from chocolate covered bacon, to hot dogs and popcorn; and much more! My favorite thing about this place is the love they have for our furry friends! Maverick enjoys a doggy cone every time we stop in
Berthoud is known for many things like backcountry skiing, hut trips, great snowshoeing, and easy access to one of the best ski resorts, Winter Park/Mary Jane. Mary Jane is the back side of Winter Park ski resort and it offers some of the best powder!
This is the sweet school bus that you can hitch a ride on from Winter Park to Mary Jane if you’re not up for skiing from side to side. My favorite lift is the Panoramic Express it goes to the top of Parsenn Bowl and let’s you off at about 12,000 ft! Talk about high altitude!
Once you’re all worn out from your day of shredding, head into town for some of the best pizza at Hernandos.
Hernandos is known for their delicious pizza, the beer and the dollar bills lining every inch of the restaurant. Go check it out and make sure you ask your waiter for a marker to leave your mark on a dollar!
Another fun adventure that Winter Park offers is tubing!
If you’re lucky on you’re way up the mountain or back down you could see our state animal the big horn sheep
